Dogs, Do You Want to Live Forever? (Hunde, Wollt Ihr Ewig Leben?/Battle Inferno)

"Wisbar wrote and directed this war film, suggested by two books on the fall of Stalingrad. At a time when Hollywood and Britain were re-living wartime triumphs and re-staging major battles and campaigns, Germany turned to their defeats--in a mood of apology, expiation and recrimination. Clearly non-German nations had very little interest in these films (other than the major ones like The Devil's General of course) and this whole school is relatively little known. It was certainly the biggest film that Wisbar had been associated with since his pre-war days, and he rises to the occasion well. In its original form, the film ran 97 minutes; for this British release, it was trimmed of some 20 minutes and well dubbed. It bears the more commercial title of Battle Inferno." William K. Everson
