Donigan Cumming: Artist's Workshop
Free Admission
For this unique session, Cumming will screen numerous clips from a very prolific five years, including early works such as Prayer for Nettie (1996) and Cut the Parrot (1996). Cumming will focus on his creative process, bringing into the discussion his complex relationship to his subjects (where does collaboration begin and end?) and to the medium itself (when do playfulness, manipulation, and interpretation swamp the borders of documentary?). This is a rare opportunity to learn first-hand about Cumming's journey into the abject.
Also on April 4: Special Noontime Lecture
Held at the Geballe Room, 220 Stephens Hall on the UC Berkeley Campus. Presented by the Townsend Center for the Humanities. Admission free. Cumming will speak specifically about representing aging in art, discussing in detail his relationship to Nettie Harris, the subject of his controversial photographic series, Pretty Ribbons.
