Dramma della Gelosia (Drama of Jealousy/The Pizza Triangle)
"Ettore Scola's The Pizza Triangle (1970)...is a burlesque masterstroke in the best Italian commedia dell'arte tradition of low-lifes in a movie of high comic ambitions. With Mastroianni as a bricklayer, Giannini as a pizza-maker, and Vitti as a flower girl letting their passions run riot in a parody of soap opera melodramatics, the highly stylized film was a synthesis of the wealth of low-down, knock-down comic talent available in Italy. The energy level of The Pizza Triangle...is quite amazing, despite dabs of Brechtian distancing. The continuous anchor of the movie is the marvelous acting of the trio of stars, who add timeless feelings to the topical Marxist gags." Andrew Sarris, Tom Allen, Village Voice, 5/12/86
