Dream Turf (Der Rasen ihrer Traume) (CANCELLED;Signs of Life substituted)
Dream Turf follows the development over five years of five secondary school football players--members of the Federal German Schools National Eleven, which played on the world-famous Wembley turf in London in 1974--as they concentrate their lives on professional football. The strain on their families and girlfriends, and the physical strain on their bodies is told in a series of graphic portraits. When the film was shown on television, one critic wrote, "This is a documentary with a paradoxical message. Dreaming of a great career, a few ambitious youngsters are changed into goods that can earn huge profits. On the way down, disillusioned, ill, they go back to their native village, but it is here that they change back into human beings.... (Dream Turf) is a parable of blind hope, unacknowledged slavery and failure which proves to be the elixir of truth."
