Eating Raoul (A Work in Progress) plus Film Clips

Eating Raoul
Eating Raoul is a “pet project” of Bartel and Woronov, presented tonight in a work-print along with clips from some of the above-mentioned films. An independent production, Eating Raoul was characterized by Film Comment's David Chute as “a delicious black comedy.... A dextrous, beautifully timed macabre comedy of manners (which) tackles kinky sex, economics, gourmet cooking, modern marriage, and even cannibalism. Yet it also has a surprising gentleness....” Bartel and Woronov play a married couple. Poor but proud, and particularly prissy, they are hell bent on destroying the evil that surrounds them in the swinging singles complex in which they live. “Paul and Mary's ‘final solution' - doing in these loathsome libertines one by one and pinching their bulging wallets - unfolds with a light-hearted morbidity that's instantly disarming” (Film Comment) and, incidentally, bloodless to watch.
