The Edge
A troubled antiwar activist plans to assassinate the President of the United States. His resolve forces others in a fragmented and disillusioned group of political allies to face the threat of government counterintelligence and reexamine their commitment to radical action. "The Edge is a serenely paced, provocative film. It challenges the viewer's habits and alters the traditional rules of drama-acting with a quiet assurance that lends it a classic touch....Everything happens `between the scenes'...Words in themselves become action....A careful camera captures the darker moments under the surface, the network of secret communications that make up a conversation along the lines of the modern novel....Kramer, like Thoreau, wants to show the close links between private life and public commitment. Failure bears down on feeling, destroying peace of mind in the process....The Edge gravely tells us that as long as peace is not restored, as long as racism is not overcome, there will be felony in everyone's heart."
