Artist in Person Maria Zmarz-Koczanowicz lives in Wroclaw, Poland, and has been making documentaries and other films since 1983. Trained in painting, philosophy, and filmmaking, from the beginning of her career as a filmmaker she has focused on social issues. Recent documentaries have dealt with feminism, the media, and multi-cultural society. She is currently working on a film about the popularity of American soap operas in Poland. While in the U.S. she has been an artist-in-residence at Hallwalls Center for Contemporary Arts in Buffalo. Audience discussion with the director will take place following the first feature.
