: For her first film made for television, Meredith Monk took a group of actors and dancers to a locus of transition, Ellis Island. She pulls the "spirit" of the past from the walls and air of this site of entry (to the country, to our origins), captures it with surveillance cameras and "still" photos (the official and personal views), and then catalogs and inventories the experience, using comparative, not qualitative measures.
