In 1947 Resnais made several portraits-sketches, really-of working artists. Not completed films in the director's opinion, these are, rather, what he calls cinematic essays. They are Resnais's very first films, and we are pleased and privileged to present them in this series for the first time in the United States, thanks to Gisèle Breteau Skira/Collection Films sur l'Art du Centre Georges Pompidou.The films:
