Eternal Love
Lubitsch's last silent brought the German mountain film to America with location shooting in the Canadian Rockies. The story is set in a Swiss mountain village in the early 19th century, during the Napoleonic invasion of Austria. John Barrymore stars as a daredevil hunter, Marcus Paltram, who defies the invading army's command that the peace-loving villagers give up all firearms. Marcus is loved by two women: his sweetheart, Ciglia (Camilla Horn), and Pia (Mona Rico), a wild mountain girl. When Pia seduces him, Marcus is forced by the strict village code to marry her. A rare print of this "transition" film, lost in the flurry of the changeover from silents to sound films.
