Farewell Again plus Gracie Fields Clip
"Considered a British classic in 1937, and possibly somewhat over-rated then, this notable film has lapsed into an undeserved obscurity. It deals with a troopship bringing soldiers home to England after years of service in the Far East, only to be sent out again on another long-lasting mission with but a few hours of reunion for men and families. A jingoistic, emotional film which exactly matched the mood of England at that particular time, as will be seen by an excerpt from the contemporary Gracie Fields film The Show Goes On which will accompany it. The excerpt shows Gracie, aboard the newly launched Queen Mary, singing 'You've got to smile as you say Goodbye' to troops departing for a Far East venture. The impressive talent behind the cameras of Farewell Again including cameraman James Wong Howe - is matched by the talent in front of the cameras - Leslie Banks, Flora Robson and others." --W.K.
