Last year's Audience Award winner Rituparno Ghosh returns with this complex family drama, steeped in the rich ironies and tensions that define and divide relationships. A family matriarch, Bhagabati (Satyajit Ray star Madhabi Mukherjee), lives alone in a crumbling mansion several hundred miles from Calcutta. Once a year, during the Durga Puja Festival, her children visit, bringing with them the loves and rivalries they've brooded over through the years. This time, however, a disowned cousin raises long-suppressed issues of prior relationships, a husband's alcoholism, and forbidden affairs. Through it all Bhagabati's grandson Joy hovers with his video camera, capturing the surface effects of these subterranean blues.
