Flesh

Flesh is the first of the films to be produced by Andy Warhol, directed by Paul Morrissey, and released under the Warhol name....Flesh is structured as one day in the life of a male hustler, played by Joe Dallesandro. Although the film contains a fair amount of homo- and heterosexual activity (and discussion thereof) and the usual cast of authentically underground Warhol types, these elements are mediated for the viewer through the central character of Joe, the passive but eminently attractive working-class hero whose equanimity in the face of weirdness functions as (a) kind of interpretive buffer (that) recasts the unsettling interactions and genuine oddities of the genre-defying Warhol film into the much more acceptable category of the social comedy film.
