Forward Reflections
Artists in Person
The past is not really past, for prior experiences are continually shaping our present. Tonight's program provocatively reveals the complexities behind various exiled voices reliving, remembering, or reflecting upon journeys of life. Reflections from Exile followed by The Blessing/La Bendición open the program with compelling meditations on losing and finding peace with oneself amidst troubling environments and family disharmony. The post 9/11 short flag-o-rama puts an eye-opening spin on the meaning of patriotism in our individual lives. The documentary Cairo Chronicles and the fictional Why is God... depict individuals who find ways to breathe new life into lost parts of their lives. Jagadakeer: between the near and east presents a multitude of cultural images and sounds that thread themes of memory, time, and homeland into a beautifully intricate work. Finally, the struggles with gender inequality and poignant dreams of six Nepalese girls and women are provided a rare personal voice in She Wants to Talk to You.
