Fun in Barracks

Preceded by: Boireau spadassin (1913) and Achetez français: le charbon (an advertising film for coal). --------------------- (Gaietés de l'escadron). A rarity from Maurice Tourneur, a consummate artist who was one of the great stylists of American and French cinema. "A stag party, headed by Raimu," as Variety called this enormously popular picture, which also stars Jean Gabin and Fernandel, was based on an early 20th century novel. "(It) describes in a funny way small happenings in cavalry barracks, at the same time bearing in mind the sentimental feeling the French have for their army....The whole thing hangs on subtlety....Practically until the end this stag picture keeps (audiences) roaring-women as well as men; and right at the end, thanks to Raimu's magnificent acting, gets sentimental tears even from the men." (Variety). Our print includes two color sequences.
