Getting to Know You

This provocative drama is inspired by the Joyce Carol Oates anthology Heat, using key stories to examine how the telling of events-whether real, imagined, or somewhere in between-can help people find the strength to live in an imperfect world. A series of tales unfolds and intertwines in a shabby upstate New York bus station where every traveler has a backstory and a dream. Judith, 16 and already with too many secrets, befriends the teenage Jimmy, becoming a willing listener to his wild imaginings about other travelers. Inventing past lives for the passersby, Jimmy's stories transfix Judith, making the unknown suddenly knowable. Taking turns imagining worlds, the two edge each other perilously close to revealing the hidden truths about their own lives. Directed by S.F. State alumna Lisanne Skyler.
