Live Musical Accompaniment
Performance artist, puppeteer, and filmmaker Nancy Andrews comes to PFA for a live music extravaganza and to screen her new film The Reach of an Arm (2001, 30 mins, B&W, 16mm). This live-action and animated filmic journey puts a new twist on the story of the great move west and the search for gold. Buck-toothed heroine Peculiarity Goodin leads this tragicomic, Grapes of Wrath - like film that reveals the harsh realities of traveling as a family. Natalija Vekic will present the Berkeley premiere of her dazzling new film The Girl with the Pearl Suspended (2002, 16 mins, Color). This Technicolor bonanza is a fairy tale about a young man seeking joy in a fantasy-filled book. Complete with freak show scenes, live snakes and acrobats, The Girl... is a thrilling ride where daydreams and nightmares intersect. Travelling Eye of the Blue Cat (Shawn Atkins, 2001, 16 mins, Color, 35mm) uses photocollage animation to tell the surreal story of a woman, her blue cats, and the violence they share. Hike Hike Hike (Anouck Iyer, 2001, 4 mins, B&W, 35mm) is a gorgeously animated jaunt through the snow. The program includes additional short films.
