Reputedly a fast-moving, satirical, day-in-the-life of Inspector Gideon (during which he deals with a dishonest associate, a mad killer, and a robbery - and receives two traffic tickets), Gideon's mockery of the Brits edges toward real nastiness, possibly representing a projection of Irishman Ford's undying resentment of the hated Black and Tans.
