Girl Crazy

Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney are at the center of this delightful musical, based on the George and Ira Gershwin Broadway success of the 1930s and full of lovely standards including "Fascinating Rhythm," "Bidin' My Time," "Embraceable You" and "But Not for Me." The story finds philandering Eastern scion Rooney sent out West for his own good, to an all-boys school isolated amid the cacti, broncos and, as it turns out, cowgirls. Busby Berkeley directed the film's now-famous finale, "I Got Rhythm," a frenetic rodeo creation complete with whips and boots, and set to the brass of Tommy Dorsey's band.
