The Goat Horn(Koziyat rog)
The Goat Horn is written by one of Bulgaria's leading authors, Nikolai Haitov, who specializes in gritty descriptions of the life and customs of rural Bulgarians in past centuries. The Goat Horn is a tale of rape, murder and revenge set in the 17th century during the period of Turkish occupation. With only a few lines of dialogue, director Metodi Andonov narrates the ten-year saga of the goat herder, Kara-Ivan, who harbors a bitter rage after his wife's rape and murder by a band of Turkish marauders. He raises their daughter, who was a silent witness to the atrocity, as a boy, imbuing her with his rage and teaching her to become a warrior. Together they pursue the killers, goring them with the traditional symbol of hatred, the goat horn. One of the most successful works of the New Bulgarian Cinema, The Goat Horn was an award-winner at several international film festivals.
