The Golden Voyage of Sinbad

Drawing on Greek and Asian mythology, The Golden Voyage sends our hero (played by John Phillip Law “with appealing understatement” --Variety) across the sea to the lost continent of Lemuria, and the mystic, many-colored Fountain of Destiny. Filmed in the beautiful caves of Arta and on other remote parts of the island of Majorca, the film evokes a rich, mythic prehistoric culture in the Temple of the Oracle and the Temple of the Green Men, ingeniously created through miniature constructions or elaborate photographic processes. But the highlights are Ray Harryhausen's “creatures,” brought to life through dimensional animation, including the fabulously grotesque centaur; the griffin, part eagle, part lion; the homunculus (an alchemically created miniature human form); and Kali, the many-armed bronze goddess with a sword in every hand.
