Guernica

"Resnais' first important film is far less of an art film on Picasso than a documentary of the destruction and suffering of war, as expressed through Picasso's enormous fresco, 'Guernica,' and other paintings, drawings, and sculptures executed by Picasso between 1902 and 1949. Its plastic integration of these and other elements (like newspaper headlines and graffiti) is combined with Paul Eluard's lyrical commentary (a mixture of poetry and prose) and Guy Bernard's evocative score into a stylistic unity suggestive of Resnais' later Hiroshima mon amour."
