Hans Staub, Photojournalist

The function of photography as "eye witness" to anhistorical era is examined in this portrait of Hans Staub, photographicchronicler of the thirties and the war years. Staub was the first Swissphotojournalist to contribute to the Zòcher Illustrierte (a Life-likeSwiss magazine); editor Arnold Kâler recalls his collaboration with thephotographer, and the gradual disappearance of such photojournalismafter the liquidation of the magazine. Staub himself, at age 83,discusses his photographs in this film which above all reveals thespecial quality of his work.
