The Heart of the Matter

A strangely forgotten film from the interesting British Lion/Korda alliance of the early fifties, Heart of the Matter, from a Graham Greene novel, could almost be considered an intellectual noir, although crime is virtually absent except as a kind of launching pad. Considering his basically TV background, new director George More O'Ferrall was responsible for some very solid and satisfying films in this period, and this perhaps rather-too-downbeat movie is one of his most interesting ones, with some exceptionally good performances from an interesting cast.
