The Herd (Suru)

The Herd was also written by Guney from prison and directed under his supervision by an associate, Zeki Okten. Writing for the British Film Institute's National Film Theatre, Ken Wlaschin notes, “Winner of the BFI Film Award for 1979 and the Locarno Festival Grand Prize.... The Herd is a violent, lyrical epic which builds with impressive force and emotion. Following a feud between two nomadic families in Anatolia, one family decides to take its herd of sheep to Ankara and sell them. Numerous misfortunes occur during the voyage until the forces of modern society overwhelm and destroy the family.”
