Hidden River
A prime example of the new Argentine independent cinema. Ana (played by well-known Argentine stage actress Paola Krum) has everything a middle-class woman supposedly desires-her own business, a loving son, and a corporate executive husband. Accidentally discovering that her husband appears to have an entirely separate life in Rio Escondido, complete with wife and son, Ana journeys to the western town. What she discovers leads her toward her own, far more individualistic fate. Former assistant to the late María Luisa Bemberg, García Guevara displays her own style of spare dialogue, poetic imagery, and lyrical control in presenting a woman's point of view on family conflict and sexual desire.
