The Highly Exalted and Cowgirls

The Highly Exalted
This affectionate documentary finds rugged poetry and rich humor in the lives of some of America's last true cowboys, working Northern Nevada's half-million acre IL Ranch. Working the cattle from horseback, they are professionals, unwilling to do maintenance work, and not looking for job security or a permanent home. Sleeping on the ground, shooting the bull in the chuckwagon tent, they are also shy and essentially gentle men who are used to being stranded with other men for long periods of time, where macho posturing and bravado simply have no place. Award, Bay Area Filmmakers' Showcase, 1985.
