"Mikio Naruse's next-to-last film stars his most reliable actress Hideko Takamine and features a script written by her husband, Zenzo Matsuyama. The story deals with an automobile accident, a rampant and rapidly increasing phenomenon in Japan at the time, and the anguish of a poor widow who loses her only son through a wealthy housewife's recklessness on return from a tryst with her boyfriend. The widow accepts financial compensation from the family chauffeur who is forced to take responsibility, but gradually she learns the truth and seeks revenge.
