Home Stories
Introduced by Angela Haardt Co-sponsored by the Goethe Institute, S.F. The International Short Film Festival in Oberhausen is internationally acclaimed for bringing attention to the short format in film, video and television. Documentary, narrative, animation and experimental works which focus on current political and social developments or demonstrate technical or aesthetic innovations are showcased in the week-long festival. Angela Haardt, Director of the Festival, will introduce two programs of selections from the 37th Festival, which was held April 24-30. Short works from both East and West Germany make up the first program of the evening. Several deal with the east-west conundrum, at least one with "the fragility of existence in our time" (Courses of Time), still another (Home Stories) with Hollywood melodrama "coming home in a choreography of glances and gestures." The second program offers works by artists from many countries, among them the Brothers Quay. Home Stories by Matthias Müller (1990, 6 mins). Germany Hallucination (Deutschland Halluzination) by Oliver Becker (1990, 10 mins, B&W). The Way to the Building Site (Der Weg zur Baustelle) by Jochen Kuhn (1990, 7 mins). The Statics of Asses' Bridge (Die Statik der Eselsbrücken) by Michael Brynntrup (1990, 21 mins, B&W). The Crossing (Die Kreuzung) by Raimund Krumme (1991, 9 mins, 35mm). Courses of Time (Zeitverläufe) by Ulrich Lindner (1990, 11 mins, 35mm). As Far as Possible to Istanbul (So schnell es geht nach Istanbul) by Andreas Dresen (1990, 45 mins, 35mm, B&W).
