Honeymoon

In Greek cinema, aging and the elderly are a subject of concern and creativity, familiarity and intellectual challenge. In the work of Angelopoulos, for instance, age carries with it history, and history is vital. And as in Angelopoulos, in Honeymoon, the directorial debut by prolific cinematographer Giorgos Panoussopoulos, old age is poetically and literally a borderline between worlds, an embankment for a journey. Here a couple whose daughter has just married realize that very little time is left for them to live. While vacationing at their customary summer resort, the husband gives in to a strong desire to do something crazy and rushes into the waves, followed by his wife, and tragedy. The incident awakens the dreams and passions of the other vacationers, who come to a surreal understanding that this is indeed their last resort.
