I Love Beijing

One of China's premier female directors, Ning Ying completes her loose trilogy of modern Beijing (On the Beat and For Fun) with this dizzying cine–poem to a city on the move. Taxi driver Dezi functions as a perfect guide as he glides his cab through a landscape of rampant modernization, his passengers a motley lot of prostitutes, businesspeople, and college students. A love song to a city seemingly too busy for love, the film offers a glimpse of the beautiful chaos of urban China, revealing the confusions, dreams, and schemes of its people.
