I Saw What You Did
"Um, sorry, wrongnumber?" Two bored and clever kids devise a telephone game in which theyannounce "I saw what you did and I know who you are" to haplessreceivers of their random calls. Inevitably, they hit upon a neighbor(John Ireland) who has just murdered his wife, and they become victimsof his panic. Ireland's neighbor, Joan Crawford, is also his would-belover until she gets his number and sets about trying to protect thegirls. The lugubrious theme of I Saw What You Did and The NightWalker-in both, we watch two middle-aged ladies, the once powerfulfigures of Stanwyck and Crawford, being terrorized and groping forpower-leaves itself open for analysis, cheerful or otherwise.
