Ice

Robert Kramer is “the most important American director you've never heard of.” The New Yorker

The legendary radical filmmaker Robert Kramer, a committed anti-Vietnam War activist who founded Newsreel Collective, turned to sci-fi thriller in the potent Ice, a combination of political documentary, Orwellian dystopia, and radical-left guerrilla theory. Sometime in the future, underground radical groups ready for total revolution, while the U.S. invades Mexico and paranoia becomes the norm. Science fiction flavored by Mao and Che, shot on grainy 16mm, the revelatory Ice is unlike anything made before or since. "I like its slow, measured flow, which is mysterious, unpredictable, full of dark corners....I like its movements, its people, its mood. The film probes in depth the most urgent contemporary realities. Robert Kramer is a filmmaker of the first magnitude" (Jonas Mekas).
