Idle Time

During your childhood, life is still way ahead of you. There is time to play, time to doddle, time to be lazier than lazy. But isn't that when your mind wanders, fancies arise, and new worlds open up? Today's compilation contemplates the wonders and reveries that only idle time can evoke, with stories based on Ezra Jack Keats, Pete Seeger, William Steig, Rosemary Wells, and others. Followed by a thirty-minute presentation by writer Teri Sloat and author/illustrator Lea Lyon.

Principally a watercolorist, Lea Lyon has published five books with her award-winning illustrations. Some of her better known collaborations are Say Something about bullying, created with Peggy Moss, and Operation Marriage, a tender look at gay marriage through the eyes of the children affected, created with Cynthia Chin-Lee.

A native of Oregon, Teri Sloat has adapted and retold numerous stories from Native cultures. She has also written indispensible educational books such as From One to One Hundred and From Letter to Letter.
