Impatient Maiden

"A decided rarity among James Whale films in that it is a contemporary romance not based on larger-than-life literary material - although he does improve on his source (a novel by the then somewhat notorious Donald Henderson Clarke) by giving it his customary theatrical bravura in terms of art direction, camera movements and his handling of actors. The original novel was titled 'The Impatient Virgin' and the film was toned down in more than title, but it's still a rather punchy pre-Code movie, as well as being one of the least-shown of all the Whale films" --W.K. Everson
