Impossible Love with short Asta Nielsen
Asta Nielsen (Asta Nielsen, Denmark, 1968). Asta Nielsen gives her last great tragic performance in a documentary about her life-directed, like so much of her life, by herself. Now an elderly woman, interviewed amidst her objects and memories, she talks about her extraordinarily successful acting career and its aftermath. Never the retiring kind, Nielsen had thirty-five full and active years as a writer (short stories and a two-volume autobiography) and painter/collagist. But in a devastating way, she shares her grief at having been cut off from film acting and virtually forgotten by the world of cinema at the end of the silent era. Poul Reumert, the great stage actor, and co-star of Nielsen's landmark first film The Abyss (1910), participates in the interview as well.
