Ingrid Bergman Rarities

Jon Wengström is the curator of the Archival Film Collection at the Swedish Film Institute, Stockholm.

These rarely screened films from the archives of the Swedish Film Institute represent Ingrid Bergman at various stages in her career after she left Sweden for international stardom. They offer intriguing views of Bergman's off-screen persona as well as behind-the-scenes glimpses of her work. The actress is seen at home with Roberto Rossellini during the making of Voyage in Italy; collaborating with Ingmar Bergman on the set of Autumn Sonata; and in a promotional film for the American Red Cross, made during her time in Hollywood. The one fiction film on the program, The Necklace, an episode from the 1967 omnibus Stimulantia, was based on a story by Guy de Maupassant. It reunited Bergman with Gustaf Molander, the director who launched Bergman's career by casting her in Intermezzo.
