Insiang
The 1976 feature that first brought Philippine director Lino Brocka international recognition makes a belated American appearance. "Insiang is a melodrama of the kind Brocka exiles at, using strong situations and almost excessive emotions...while subtly delineating a social (and finally political) situation. Here a daughter and a mother share the same lover, with expected results....Insiang is a strong film: it is also a film full of concern and deep humanity...." (David Overbey, Toronto Film Festival '83).
