Inspector Hornleigh on Holiday

"In 1939 and 1940, Cockney comedian Gordon Harker (whom Michael Powell lauds in his autobiography as one of Britain's major and most underrated talents) and Alastair Sim co-starred in three comedy-thrillers based on a popular radio series. This is the second and best, with Launder and Gilliat's script (murders for insurance at an English seaside resort) combining wit and genuine thrills. The Hornleighs represented Sim's last second-banana roles, and from 1941 on he was being sought out for more demanding and soon starring roles." -William K. Everson
