Jailhouse Rock

“In Jailhouse Rock, Elvis plays a not-too-smart country boy sent to the Big House for his gallantry: while trying to protect a lady of questionable morals, he accidently murders her lover. The King's prison rehabilitation comes in the form of guitar lessons from cell-mate Mickey Shaughnessy. Once released from those prison walls, El forms a record company and is rocketed to stardom with his first hit. But, he loses himself in the process, and forgets those who helped him to the top. His fall cometh when Shaughnessy deals the King his blow of comeuppance and temporarily wrecks his career. With physical recovery comes moral salvation and Elvis is back on the fast track to fame and romance. Jailhouse Rock is the quintessential Presley movie with the ‘scope format affording plenty of lateral space for the King's justifiably famous hip-shake. A killer score backed by the Jordanaires includes ‘Treat Me Nice', ‘You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care', ‘Young and Beautiful', and the exhilarating, classic staging of the title song.” Sally Syberg
