Janosik
This Slovakian swashbuckler in the spirit of Fairbanks and Flynn recounts the adventures of the Robin Hood-like folk hero Janosik. Splendidly outfitted in braids and a plumed brigand hat, his belt stuffed with pistols, the outlaw leader champions his idyllic homeland against the hussars of the Hungarian lords. Hollywood standards for fast-paced action and lavish production values are enhanced by authentic locations, rich period detail, and versatile director Fric's ability to bring stylish elements of European cinema to the genre. It became one of the most popular films worldwide in the 1930s. Please note: Although our print has no English subtitles, the story is simple to follow, and the visual fun of the film is well worth the viewing.
