Jassy

“The first of the Margaret Lockwood Gainsborough Gothics to be done in color, Jassy reverses the roles from Wicked Lady, with Lockwood as the exceedingly put-upon heroine, and Patricia Roc unconvincingly unsympathetic. The ladies (Norah Swinburne and Linden Travers are others involved) quite dominate the proceedings this time, with the men (Dermot Walsh, Dennis Price, Ernest Thesiger) either passive, ineffectual or aged. A story of sex, passion and murder without vigorous male heroes and villains leaves a little something to be desired, but the plot certainly lacks nothing in old-fashioned melodramatic incident. Splendidly art directed and photographed in Technicolor, well preserved in this excellent print.” William K. Everson
