Jazz Dance

Based in Los Angeles, he has visited the Archive several times during the last eight years to introduce programs that swing with rare music clips from his collection. Tonight he presents a history of tap dancing from the 1920s to the 1950s, with film clips featuring such artists as Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, John Bubbles, Peg Leg Bates, the Berry Brothers, the Four Step Brothers, Eleanor Powell, and many, many others. The program includes examples of Buck and Wing, Paddle and Roll, Soft Shoe, Flash Dance, Rhythm, Challenge and classical tap, as well as the Lindy Hop.
