Jealousy

"Republic's first foray into the art-film field (predating Specter of the Rose and Macbeth), Jealousy is a strange and fascinating psychological thriller from the director of Extase; it was his first and last Hollywood feature. Because odd members of its cast and crew were later blacklisted during the McCarthy period, the film was conveniently pushed under the rug in later years, and all of its credits removed during a later tv release! Clearly the mid-forties was not an ideal time for Machaty to bring his unique style of eroticism to Hollywood, but nevertheless the Hollywood economy was sound then and allowed for offbeat experimentation like this one." -William K. Everson
