Kaskara and Lagado

Lagado
“Lagado by Werner Nekes is based on Jonathan Swift's description of the Lagado academy in ‘Gulliver's Travels.' A series of experiments in which pictures and sounds are related in unusual ways through the technique of the experimental film serve to present basic problems of communication. In Lagado Werner Nekes continues his various experiments with the cinematic medium, mainly following austere structural patterns, testing the expressive capacity and transparency of this communication system composed of pictures and sounds. Whereas some of Nekes' early works were marked by a certain rigidity, Lagado, due to the seriousness of his experiment, is both entertaining and interesting.” --Peter W. Jansen, “The New German Film”
