The Katyn Forest
Andrzej Wajda and his friend Marcel Lozinski have made a gripping documentary about accountability in their homeland. The 1940 massacre of 15,000 Polish officers is explored in terms of its meaning for the present day and of the lies told about it-by survivors, the children of victims, and politicians. The filmmakers also explore the symbolic place this horror occupies in the Polish and Russian psyches.
