The King and I

Yul Brynner memorably recreated his Broadway role as the king of Siam in this grand CinemaScope adaptation of the popular Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. Deborah Kerr plays the English governess whose culture clash with the king gradually yields to respect and even love. The film's vision of Thai culture may be dubious, but the songs-“Getting to Know You,” “Shall We Dance,” and more-create enduring magic.
