La Jetee
Chris Marker's celebrated science fiction short is made up of still photographs and frozen shots, with the exception of one sensuous burst of movement. In a Paris destroyed by World War III, a man's vivid memory of a childhood image enables him, after much suffering, to travel in time back to the woman whose face he remembers. Choosing to stay in the past, he is nevertheless exploited for his skill by scientists of the future.
