La Rencontre

It has been called a UFO, and maybe that's the best way to indicate the radical otherness of this almost indescribable work. It is a love story: the filmmaker met someone and began to record what happened to the two of them. The entire film is closeups, not of them but of the objects that make up their (our) world, and, sometimes, a hand, a foot, a breast. Their voices are never raised above the level of someone's voice speaking just inches away. In some ways, then, this isn't a film at all (shot on Hi-8 video, then filmed in 35mm off a TV screen). Maybe anybody could make this film. But finally someone has.
