Columbia's favorite bag lady May Robson (Lady for a Day) returns in Lady by Choice as another Apple Annie-like incarnation, Patsy Patterson, opposite Carole Lombard who is delightful as the fan dancer Alabam Lee. The two rendezvous periodically in night court (Walter Connolly presiding), Alabam for indecent exposure and Patsy for outspoken inebriation. When the dancer's agent “Front” O'Malley (Raymond Walburn) proposes a little publicity scam for Mother's Day, Alabam “adopts” Patsy. But Pygmalian makes an about-face when she turns into super-mom, taking Alabam's love-life and career in tow. Another Jo Swerling script keeps this fine ensemble cast crackling.
